Asia and Australia

Australia has always attracted international students to the extent that Australia is the third most popular international destination after the US and UK.

Asian universities have been gaining in reputation and popularity over recent years and this is partly due to massive investments in higher education by host governments. Singapore, Hong Kong & Japan are the best known destinations.

Australia


Australia’s best known research universities belong to the “Group of 8” which would be an excellent place to start your investigations. Australian universities are mainly public universities with guaranteed high standards. Applications are usually made for the February (summer) semester in the previous fall.


Singapore


Singapore has 3 world class universities: NUS the National University, NTU Nanyang Technical and SMU the Management University as well as a range of other more specialist options such as the S P Jain School of Global Management and Lasalle College of the Arts. Entry to these schools is highly competitive due to the educational standards maintained in Singapore.

Hong Kong


Hong Kong has 3 world class universities: HKU, HKUST University of Science & Technology and CUHK Chinese University as well as 3 other well regarded and highly ranked alternative institutions: CUHK City University, BUHK Baptist University and HK Polytechnic. Hong Kong universities were created using a UK model and their application system reflects UK practice.


Japan


The Japanese government has instituted a Global 30 Programme to internationalise Japanese higher education. This means that there are now an increasing number of english medium degrees available at the best known Japanese universities at both undergraduate and post graduate level. Fees are very moderate compared to the UK and US and Japanese universities accept applications for the fall semester or spring semester. Japan is a good place to find Liberal Arts degrees on the US model, both in local universities such as Sophia and Waseda in Tokyo or ICLA the International College of Liberal Arts and also the Tokyo campus of Temple University


Korea

Malaysia


Malaysia is also developing as an educational hub in Asia thanks to the number of international campuses that have now been established locally: these include Nottingham, Heriot Watt and Southampton from the UK and Monash, Curtin and Swinburne from Australia.
